Argentina is a very promising team with the leadership of Lionel Messi, the Soccer player of the year 2009. Although Argentina was booted off the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan in the first round, Argentina returned and performed well in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, defeating some of the best teams in the World championship including Ivory Coast, Serbia and Montgomery, and Mexico. Argentine, however, lost Germany in a Penalty Shootout.
This time it maybe a different story. Argentina is one of the only two nations, France is the other, to have won the three Soccer Championships recognized by the FIFA: The World Cup, the Confederation Cup, and the Olympic Tournament. Argentina also defeated former World Cup foe and champion of SWC 2002, Brazil to win the Olympic in China. And also won the regional cup (Copa America). This time, it maybe different and Argentine is a tremendous force for this year's world cup.
Brazil
Brazil's new generation may give Brazil a miracle for this year 2010 World Cup, South Africa. The older folks who propelled Brazil to the top of the Soccer World Cup in 2002 may not be as impressive as back then. This is the same squad that lost to Argentina in the final of the Soccer Olympic in China, so how much are the Brazilian men going to offer in this year World Cup is question that will only be answered at the end of the Championship. But Brazil, however, cannot be ruled out!
Italy
Italy won the 2006 World Cup after a shootout against France. The Italians didn't produce the best of the best performance in the previous World Cup, but took home the cup after a good fight against France. So far, the newer generation players may give Italy a boost for the this year's World Cup. But the biggest hurdles would be the under dogs of the championships that often brought about tremendous surprises in the past decade. In 2002, Sieera Leon, stunned the entire world when they defeated the Cup holder and former Colonial power, France.
So many teams, many of whom considered rookies, have players playing overseas in professional levels, bringing the level of professionalism to a standard never before seen in World Cup championship. Italy will have to fight hard to retain its cup and reputation.
Pacific Teams
Australia: Australia had been impressive in its Asian World Cup qualifier and have produced some international players such as Cahill, Kewel, Viduka, and others. Australia's performance in 2006 was impressive, but lost its chance to advance to elimination round against Italy. Hope Australia will perform well this team by combining the massive experience of their exported players.
New Zealand. New Zealand makes history by qualifying for the Oceania block. NZ will compete in level of soccer it had never competed in before. Hope for the best.
